Check your Mac and storage.
The prepared Mac release targets Apple Silicon and macOS 14 or later. Choose a writable folder on your Mac or a connected drive for the Rollside library. An external drive is an option, not a requirement.
Local captions setup needs at least 6 GB free at the chosen location. Allow additional room for original footage, working files and exports. The final installer and release notes will confirm the requirements when downloads open.
Choose a home for your projects.
The library location keeps projects, imported media, optional models, update downloads and exports together. If you choose an external drive, reconnect that drive when you return to edit. If it disconnects, Rollside asks you to reconnect it; media saves do not silently fall back to Downloads.
Keep a separate backup of your originals and important completed work. Saved versions help compare edits; they are not a replacement for a backup on another device or drive.
Understand the first editing workflow.
- Import your footage. Bring video, audio or images into the project library.
- Arrange the story. Place clips on the timeline, trim them and step through the edit frame by frame.
- Add the words. Refine editable text and captions, then shape the sound for the edit.
- Review your choices. Use saved versions and comparison previews where available. Before-and-after stills show a particular frame; audio changes may not look different.
- Check before exporting. Confirm the media, timing and storage, then review the finished picture and sound after export.
The 21-second Mac demo shows a native development project, a real text-colour edit, the comparison view and a composition exported from Rollside.
Keep your licence and move between Macs.
When sales open, the purchase confirmation will show your licence key and the approved signed installer. Save the key and your Stripe receipt. Open the disk image, drag Rollside into Applications and activate through Rollside → Licence… when you are ready to export.
The prepared Mac licence allows two active Macs. In the release candidate, Licence… → Copy saved licence key lets you keep the key before deactivating a Mac. Deactivate the old Mac, then use the same key on the new one. Deactivation releases the seat; it does not delete your projects. If you have lost access to the old Mac or your key, keep your receipt for support. Automated email recovery is still being prepared.
Recover calmly when a file or drive is missing.
If a drive disconnects, reconnect the intended drive and retry. Do not delete partial files or replace missing originals with a different take. The release candidate adds Storage & recovery with a fresh drive check, library and recovered-write folders, and a support report saved locally for you to review.
When an original is missing and its complete fingerprint was saved, Locate original verifies the file’s full SHA-256 and size before restoring it to the selected library. It preserves an existing destination and leaves the edit unchanged. Older imports without a complete fingerprint and damaged files need the original drive or a verified backup.
The support report contains app, storage, component, licence and update status. It excludes footage, project names, full paths, email addresses, licence keys and logs. It is not sent automatically; share it only when you choose. Saved versions help recover an edit, but you still need a separate backup of your library.
Choose local tools or optional cloud AI.
Local captions run on your Mac after their optional setup. Setup is started only when you choose it, needs at least 6 GB free, and can repair missing verified components. Basic editing does not require that download. Cloud AI assistance uses your own provider account and may incur separate usage charges. If you choose cloud AI, the material needed for the request is sent to your selected provider. Review the AI settings before using private footage.
The Mac launch offer is £99, one time, with a planned standard price of £149. iPhone apps, third-party plugins and cloud AI usage are separate. Full licence, update and refund terms will be available before checkout opens.

Use the Rollside for Mac page for the current release status. Public installer downloads and checkout remain closed while launch checks are completed. Do not use an unofficial installer or share your purchase key.
iPhone-to-drive transfer and the shared Creator Bundle are planned companion features. They are not included as a promise of current cross-app access.
